Virtualization has changed the rules. It’s no longer about consolidation. It’s about 24 by 7 by 365 application availability. It’s about simplification. It’s about massively reducing manually intensive tasks while squeezing the most absolutely possible out of the infrastructure while reducing power and cooling. Virtualization has changed the server paradigm by enabling resources on-demand, loosely coupled bonds between software and hardware, incredibly elastic scalability, and pay-as-you go flexibility, enabling cloud services.
Storage can no longer be “the tail wagging the dog,” as it has been in so many IT organizations. Virtualization has the potential to provide the same or a similar paradigm shift for storage. Server virtualization has changed the rules.
