The SAM program was built on the assumption of one device per user. One license per server. New platform technologies, more computing power, and mobile workers are breaking this assumption. Now, users have mutiple devices from laptops to desktops to handhelds to home PC(s).   In the data center a single server is now multiple virtual machines. Even a  single server has multiple cores and processors. These developments pose issues for Software Asset Management that must be factored into the SAM program.
