Over the past 14 years, I have attended numerous conferences in the Software Asset Management industry and some of them really stand out in the crowd. If you are searching for conferences to attend in 2018, here are my recommendations.

The first on the calendar is the IAITAM Spring ACE (International Association of IT Asset Managers Spring Annual Conference & Exhibition) which will take place in Orlando, Florida on May 8-10. This is the largest conference in the United States dedicated solely to IT and Software Asset Management. It consists of numerous presentations by end-users and vendors, an exhibit hall filled with SAM tool, consulting and IT Asset Disposal vendors, as well as evening events in the exhibit hall. Most of the attendees are practitioners in ITAM and SAM and this provides a great opportunity for peer networking. For more information, visit IAITAM’s website at http://iaitam.org/ace-itam-conference/.

The next conference I recommend is SAMS USA which will be held on June 24-26 in Chicago, IL. This event came to the United States for the first time in 2017, as historically it has been held in Europe. If you are interested in networking with advanced SAM professionals, then this conference is for you. The attendees tend to be very experienced in SAM and most of the presentations are delivered by SAM professionals who share their stories of how they solved complex challenges. There are a handful of vendors who sponsor at this event, however this event resembles an advanced user group meeting. For more information, visit the website at https://sam-strategies.com/.

As fall approaches, the Gartner Summit will take place. This year Gartner is combining its IT Financial, Procurement and Asset Management Summit with its IT Sourcing Summit. These conferences used to take place one right after the other at the same venue, however they will merge in 2018, taking place September 5-7 in Orlando, FL. This conference consists of numerous Gartner Analyst presentations, workshops, customer case studies, sponsor sessions, vendor hospitality suites and a Solution Showcase. The quality of this conference is very high in terms of the keynotes and presentation content, and there is a great opportunity for networking for both the end-user and vendor community. Attendees are both practitioners and leaders in decision-making roles. For more information, visit Gartner’s website at https://www.gartner.com/events/na/it-sourcing-procurement-asset-management.

There is one more conference I would like to mention which is not specific to our industry but offers a SAM track. ServiceNow’s annual user conference, Knowledge18, will take place on May 7-10 in Las Vegas, NV. If you are a ServiceNow customer interested in SAM, you can learn about the new SAM platform which was first released last July. Or, if you already have a SAM tool in place such as Flexera, Snow, or Eracent, you can learn how these solutions integrate with ServiceNow’s ITSM platform. Both the IAITAM Spring ACE and ServiceNow’s Knowledge18 are being held in the same week, so if you have the flexibility, divide and conquer by splitting your team between IAITAM and Knowledge18 so that your organization can benefit from each event. For more information, visit ServiceNow’s website at https://knowledge.servicenow.com/.

Siwel will be sponsoring at IAITAM Spring ACE and Knowledge18, so please stop by and visit us if you attend these events.
